Passing By

Mike:

Mike flew home from Fold’s house, thinking of a few things.

Part of him was glad that Scott was able to solve Kenny’s dilemma, as best as he could.  At least it was better than Mike’s plan of killing the boy.  But Mike was also angry that he couldn’t do it himself.  Angry enough that he had a childish temper tantrum.

Destroying a table was not conductive to reason, he thought, not something a responsible adult would do.  And that’s what he was, now, a responsible adult, of all people.   He never thought he could be one.  If his family could see him now:  a “father” to a group of teens and college kids wanting to be heroes, looking up to him to be their leader and guide.

All he wanted was to get into UNITY.   But he couldn’t dump the kids, because he cared about them as much as they probably cared about him.

Now, all he needed to do was find Mikael…

Knight:

Lynn asked, “Expecting a baby?”

Knight looked up from the book he was reading, and blushed a deep red.  She stood at the table, a hand on her hip, while he sat eating lunch before the rush, holding open the book, “What To Expect When You’re Expecting”.  “I…uh, know somebody,” he said.

“Well, I’ll let you know on a little secret.  You know all that moodiness stuff?  Happens only when you’re having girls.”  She grinned.  “And the cravings?  Dead on.  I craved Orange Juliuses when I had Maureen.”  She laughed, “Got so bad I learned how to make them at home.”

Anita came by the table.  “Oh, who’s having a baby?”

“Mal’s friend,” he said, closing the book and trying to hide it.

“Oh, I think that’s sweet, that you want to know what they’re going through.”

Said Lynn, “We should get him a baby bump fat-suit so he knows how it feels carrying around ten pounds of extra weight right here,” she patted her abdomen.

“When I had Rob,” said Anita, “I was so sick.  I would walk into the butcher section of the store and really feel like throwing up.  I couldn’t go anywhere that had strong smells.  Even Bed, Bath and Beyond!”

“Ginger tea helps with that,” said Lynn knowingly.  “My sister had that problem.  I think she lived on ginger ale the whole pregnancy.”

Knight gathered up his dishes.  “I better get back there,” he said, still trying to hide the book.

Lynn smiled, put a hand on Knight’s arm.  “You have any other questions about being pregnant, honey, you just come see us.”

Knight almost ran to the sanctuary of the kitchen.
