Mike had always been technologically adverse.
Until he found out about a thing called a “Kindle.”
In one of the DEMON lairs, he found this small, book-sized tablet. Thinking that Scott would find it interesting, he pocketed it. But once he saw the books that were on it – books about magic, witchcraft, and people’s grimoires – he was hooked. He was able to get more books from a place called Amazon (not the river, and not a crazy warrior woman, either). Most of the items posted by people were junk, but there were a few gems here and there that he wrote down. After he figured out how to order, he bought more, using this person’s account, of course.
Amazon showed him more books that he would be interested in. It predicted what he liked. It scared him a little, to think that a computer could predict so accurately what he wanted.
Then he was browsing among the LBGT books. Between the porn and social studies, there was a book that sparked his interest. The Power Bottom. It wasn’t fiction, as he guessed, but a how-to. It was only $1.99.
Intrigued, he bought it. The Kindle could hide from people what he was reading, so he could easily read the book and not have to worry about someone looking askance at the cover. He skimmed the book, then read it again. When he finished, he tapped the Kindle against his chin and thought about the tips and tricks discussed in the book.
He knew he couldn’t–and wouldn’t–submit to anyone, especially Big Scott, as he had taken to calling him in his head. Mike needed to keep Big Scott busy and entertained, so he wouldn’t go after, say, the kids; or, especially, his own Scott. Besides, Mike wanted to find out more about him, so he could find the proper way to take him out.
Permanently.
