Grim walked around the moon base. He started at the north, pressing buttons one at a time. Some were for the lights. Some moved the solar panels just outside. Some seemed to do nothing at all. One brought up a keyboard.
It was dark and lonely up here. There were no books. He could still do magic, illusions, summoning. The side sections had not been completed. It took him an hour until he progressed to the crime computer. From there he checked hotspots and found some waiting. All he needed to do was contact UNITY.
First he had to register the group. But before that, he had to get permission from PRIMUS to have a group. And with that came his exposure.
Grim sat in one of the comfortable chairs and looked up at the stars. What would happen if he registered again in PRIMUS as himself, leader of the Teen Guardians? Would they look back at his affiliations and see that he really wasn’t much of a team player? Would any of the information from Paragon or the Rogue Isles be available anymore, now that those places were gone? He would have to put down Scott as a reference, which might sully Scott’s reputation.
Then there was always Hades to worry about. If Hades found him out, he would be summoned back to where he started – back to Hades and probably fed into the realm of Tartarus for eternity.
The guy in Caprice had scared him. He remembered Grim from Paragon and remembered all the dark and evil things he did. What if he found out about Grim’s group and started shit with PRIMUS?
Grim got the computer working and connected to the web via satellite. He signed onto the PRIMUS website and filled out his application, both for himself and for the group. It took him two hours. And even after he finished, he had to file certain secondary forms which had to be filed in person. Each one of the members, if they were minors, had to get permission from their guardians to join with his group, and he had to have that paperwork on file. Each one of the members had to have waivers signed. Each one had to be registered with PRIMUS in good standing. The group itself had to be insured with an approved worker’s compensation insurance company. There were other stupid liability laws and forms that he and the members had to fill out as well.
He decided he needed a hacker to fake those forms. He didn’t want to cause grief with the members. It’s why he had only three rules: Respect him, his stuff, and Scott. Each other’s respect would have to be earned, but he expected that no one was going to hate each other here. In fact Kenny had his eye on two of them already.
He heard a “ding” – someone had crossed the brass circle in the library. He smiled. It must be Scott, and he must be curious about what that brass ring is.
“No time like the present,” Grim said, getting up, and starting the chant to summon Scott to the base.
