Semi-permanent vacation

Geldreth reassessed his opponents.  One seemed like him-and-a-half, the other one just about his size but not as bulky.  The little one had distracted him while the big one slammed a heavy fist into his face that would have crushed a lesser man’s skull.  Instead, he shook it off and stepped back.

No fuckin’ fair, using meta powers.  That pissed him off.  This was a street brawl, and metas weren’t allowed.  So he thought.  He glanced at his so-called agent, who looked just as surprised as he was.

Well, no matter, and Geldreth turned it up a few notches.  He crouched, digging his toes into the dirt for a launch.  The little one moved, but Geldreth went right at the big guy.   He expected it, and Geldreth saw him harden his muscles.  Oh yeah? he thought, and headed down, shoulder slamming into his knee.  The man buckled, and Geldreth dove out of the way of the falling behemoth, kicking up at the same time.  His foot hit home, crashing into the man’s windpipe.

As the big guy struggled for breath, Geldreth turned on the little one.  He caught him with a right hook, and then a left – and he kept on going until the man’s head was a near-bloody pulp.  Then he turned and put the big guy out of his misery with one solid slam into the man’s temple.

He got up, and waited for the facilitator to raise his hand in victory and hand him his money.  He looked at the man, who moved fast and did the victory movement.  Then he gave Geldreth a nice stack of bills.  Geldreth thanked him, and gave his “agent” a glare.  The guy shrugged.

He headed out into the crowd, and thought he saw Grim’s spiked blond hair.  He headed toward him, and yes, it was Grim.  He gave Geldreth a small smile, which meant something was bothering him but he was still happy to see him.

“Grim!”  He hugged him tightly, not caring who saw.  Besides, anyone else would know better.  “What are you doing here?  I thought you were going to go to work.”

“I…um…have to stay here for a little while.”

“What happened?”

“Not here…”
